These terms govern your use of kanoonsathi.com (the "Site") operated by Kanoon Sathi ("we", "us"). By using the Site, submitting a request, or registering as a lawyer, you agree to them.
1. What we are — and are not
Kanoon Sathi connects people with lawyers. It is a directory and referral service, not a law firm, and does not itself provide legal advice. Nothing on this Site — including practice-area guides, city guides and FAQs — is legal advice or a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer about your specific situation. Using the Site or submitting a request does not create a lawyer–client relationship with us.
2. How the service works
When you submit a legal problem, a member of our team reads it and may forward it to an independent lawyer listed in our directory whose practice areas and location appear to fit. That lawyer may accept or decline. If they accept, they receive your contact details and may contact you directly. Any engagement, fees, advice or representation that follows is solely between you and that lawyer. We do not supervise, control or guarantee their work.
We do not guarantee that a lawyer will be available, that any lawyer will accept your request, or any particular outcome.
3. Fees
Submitting a request and browsing the directory is free. We do not currently charge clients or lawyers, take a percentage of legal fees, or process payments. Any fees for legal services are agreed directly between you and the lawyer.
4. Lawyer listings
Every lawyer profile is reviewed by our team before it is published, and we check the information provided against Bar Council of India advertising norms. However, we do not independently verify enrolment status, qualifications or experience beyond the documents and information supplied, and we make no representation about any lawyer's competence or suitability. Lawyers listed on the Site are independent professionals, not our employees or agents.
In keeping with Bar Council of India rules, the directory does not rank, rate or compare lawyers, and does not publish testimonials or success rates. Listing order is based on neutral criteria such as name, city or years of experience.
5. Lawyer obligations
If you register as a lawyer you confirm that you are enrolled with a State Bar Council and entitled to practise in India, that the information in your profile is accurate, and that your profile complies with Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules and other applicable professional conduct rules. You are responsible for keeping your profile accurate and for your conduct towards clients referred to you, including confidentiality of their information. We may edit, suspend or remove any profile at our discretion, including for non-compliance with these terms or professional rules.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to submit false or misleading information, impersonate anyone, submit requests you do not genuinely need help with, attempt to access other users' data, scrape the Site, or interfere with its operation. We may block access for breach of these terms.
7. Your content
You retain ownership of the information you submit. You grant us a licence to use it for the purpose of operating the service as described here and in our Privacy Policy.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the Site, from any lawyer's advice, conduct or services, or from any delay or failure in forwarding a request. The Site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.
9. Intellectual property
The Site's design, text, illustrations and code are owned by us or our licensors. You may not reproduce them without permission, other than for personal, non-commercial reference.
10. Changes and termination
We may change these terms or discontinue the Site at any time. Continued use after changes are posted means you accept them.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts at New Delhi have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have.
